What's it like riding the Honda CB1000 Hornet SP? Find out here...
Tested by Justin Hayzelden
I’ve chosen the Hornet to give my life a bit of a shake up and find out if a lively, cut-price naked is just as capable of scratching my biking itch as something with all the bells and whistles. It’ll get a pounding on my 100-mile commute, which over six months is enough of a long-term test in itself. It’s a mix of twisty B-roads and fast A-roads with a bit of dual carriageway and town work, and if it can make me smile come rain or shine, that’ll be a win.
Beyond that, I’ll be racking up some routes between MCN Pit Stops, which will give me a chance to see how it copes with longer days, and I’ll strap on a tent for low budget touring – maybe even attempt an Iron Butt ride. Getting some track time will be interesting too, as the Brembo brakes, Öhlins suspension and Fireblade derived engine should be right at home on a circuit. That could be more of a challenge for this old saddle tramp than the Hornet though!
