Insurance advice: Riding your foreign bike in the UK

If you are a foreign national and you want to bring your own set of wheels to the UK like US-based Andy Kirkwood wants to with his Ducati 1098, there are strict time limits in place for the length of time you can run around on a foreign registration plate.

A foreign-registered vehicle can be used on our roads for up to six months in any 12 months without the need to comply with UK vehicle regulations.

But as Andy is staying in the UK for a year he will need to register the bike in the UK.

Then, when he heads back across the Pond he would then have to go through the export procedure, which is pretty straightforward, when he returned to the USA.
