MCN Fleet: Husqvarna 701 gets new boots

1 of 2

After covering 2500 miles on the standard fit Continental ContiAttack SM tyres, the rear was starting to square off and looking ready for replacement.

The Contis performed well, taking all-weather commuting in their stride, and providing plenty of grip for more spirited riding on the weekends. In their place I wanted something a little stickier and more aggressive, so opted for a pair of Metzeler Racetec RR K3s on the advice of senior road tester Michael Neeves.

Keen to try the new sticky rubber out and get them scrubbed in I headed out for a short ride after work and was surprised at just how quickly they warmed up and gave me plenty of confidence to lean to the edge of the tyre. As expected the steering was much quicker, and the new tyres feel much more stable when leant over.

They’re probably not the best choice of tyres for everyday commuting in all weathers, so I’m going to get the Husky on track to see how they perform.
