Full Akrapovič exhaust system for Yamaha R9 sportsbike gives bhp boost with Euro5+ compliance

Slovenian exhaust specialists Akrapovič have wasted no time in launching a new system for Yamaha’s incoming R9 supersport bike.
The R9 is powered by Yamaha’s 890cc CP3 three-cylinder engine and is yet to appear in UK dealerships. It was launched to the international motorcycle press around two weeks ago in Spain, with Chief Road Tester Michael Neeves awarding it a maximum five stars.

The new Racing Line system, produced partially in titanium, has been inspired by exhausts already built for Yamaha’s R6, R7, and R1.
Priced at £1799 through Performance Parts Limited it promises a boost in performance whilst continuing to adhere to stringent Euro5+ emissions regulations.

Both the outer sleeve and end cap of the muffler are produced in lightweight titanium, with a link pipe, headers, and pre-muffler all made from stainless steel. It replaces the standard, underslung system and gives a more pronounced right-side mounted end can.
It’s said to use a similar design to the full racing system used by the Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team in the World Supersport championship. The team took victory with Stefano Manzi on the racing debut of the R9 at Phillip Island, in Australia.

Despite the short circuit inspiration, the new product line continues to meet Euro5+, meaning it can be legally used on the road, whilst also offering subtle performance boosts.

Akrapovič say that their engineers focused on throttle response during the development process, plus gains in the mid to higher rev range.

As a result, power is up by a claimed 3bhp at 10,000rpm, and an extra 1.9lb.ft of torque at 9500rpm. It’s also said to be plug-and-play, meaning no need for a remap.
