Next-gen sports-touring rubber: Metzeler Roadtec 02 tyres announced for 2024

Motorcycle tyre specialists Metzeler have announced a new version of their popular Roadtec 01 sports-touring tyre. The Metzeler Roadtec 02 will be available for purchase from January 2024 with claimed improvements in warm-up time and wet, cold or slippery conditions, according to the German firm.
The new tyre will also be the first in the Metzeler catalogue to use a high percentage of materials of natural origin and recycled material – making them better for the planet, too.

For us, travel is the quintessence of motorcycling to be understood as a lifestyle,” said Metzeler Marketing Director, Francesco Pietrangeli. “We are talking to the motorcyclist who always rides, even if it’s raining and cold. But also, to the romantic one, hungry for adventure and experiences to tell.

“All without ignoring another value of primary importance for us, the quality: those who travel trust and rely on high quality tyres, safe even in rain and cold, which make riding easier and are not very tiring.”
Metzelers tyre rivals Michelin have already announced greener rubber for their car and bus tyres and we expect other manufacturers to head down this route on the march towards net zero targets. Tyres and brake pads are likely to come under environmental scrutiny and even taxation due to the particulates they release into the atmosphere.
The Metzeler Roadtec 01 and Roadtec 01 SE have been winning MCN’s sports-touring tyre tests for years with its impressive handling characteristics in all weathers and so the 02 has big boots to fill.
