The Osmo Action can produce crisp footage, and a front-facing screen means you can frame rear-facing footage. DJI has also developed RockSteady, a stabilisation tech even more powerful than GoPro’s, but it does crop a fair amount – not ideal for capturing the scenery.
DJI’s app isn’t the best, but it’s easy to overlook – especially when you consider the price; at £300-ish when bundled loads of accessories, it’s one of the best value cameras you can get.

‘Being MCN’s in house videographer, I’ve been excited about the arrival of the X4 since I spoke to the Insta360 team at the Eicma trade show in Milan, late last year. I started filming family holidays with action cameras on early GoPros, way before we had 360-degree vision.'
‘I already use the current X3 design when producing MCN videos and have had the X4 under embargo around two weeks. Comparing them back to back on my Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 long term test bike, I was actually a little disappointed at first.'
‘The user interface was already good on the X3, so didn’t need much in the way of updating, but the workflow they’ve launched for editing afterwards is now really good, too.’
Pros
- High-resolution recording
- 360-degree coverage
- Improved battery life
- Enhanced stability
- Robust and water-resistant build
- Versatile frame rates and resolutions
- Improved user interface and editing workflow
Cons
- Increased weight
- Increased cost
- Limited compatibility with existing accessories
- Bulkier than before

“You’ve probably not heard of Reapp – and nor had we until recently – but the deals on their disc locks are hard to ignore, especially in Amazon sale events.
“At full price, the Reapp costs £32.99 and for that money you’d probably go for a brand you’ve heard of like Oxford who have alarmed disc locks in this price range.
“But when it’s on offer at Amazon for as little as £23.99, it can look very tempting. So tempting, in fact, that we bought one.
“The first thing you notice as you take the lock out of the packaging is that it is incredibly light. The whole top casing is made of thin cast metal and is pretty much hollow apart from the alarm circuitry. It doesn’t fill you with confidence.
“The bottom section is made from solid metal but has such a cheap and scratchy finish that I initially thought it was made of plastic.
“It’s not all bad, though, as the alarm sound is genuinely ear-splitting. It’s high-pitched and very loud and would definitely demand attention if someone was trying to steal your bike.
“If you have a good-quality disc lock already without an alarm then the Reapp would make a good addition to your security armoury and it’s definitely better than nothing at all but if you have the budget there are better-quality options out there.”

"For me, the Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus gives me the same peace of mind that I’d get if I never went out and spent my days in a rocking chair on my back porch staring at my shed. The bright floodlights and piercing alarm ensure that someone can’t wander up to it unnoticed, and even if they did, the notification to my phone that someone had broken through the perimeter is instant.
It's easy to install, simple to configure, and is both rugged and reliable - like having my own personal Household Cavalry."
Pros
- It's easy to install
- Seamless connectivity
- Rugged build quality

"Loop have become well-known for their noise-reducing ear plugs that come in a huge variety of colours and with differing amounts of attenuation depending on the model.
"The recommended option for bikers is the Experience, which offers a 17dB noise cut to protect your hearing while letting you hear the traffic around you and your own engine sound.
"I've been using Loop products for years and these latest are from the Sublime range released for autumn/winter 2024. The colour options are intended to evoke memories or the late nineties, but the plugs themselves are just the same as the standard Experience 2s.
"The Loops are instantly comfortable and having worn them on and off for around six hours on that first afternoon, I can say that they remain comfortable for extended periods. It’s great to be able to hear other traffic around you clearly from a safety perspective, but I also noticed I could hear the engines of the bikes I was riding better (which is always good) and also found it easier to speak with colleagues without taking my helmet off on work rides.
"It’s always great when a product does what it promises and these ear plugs from Loop really fit that description. It’s a simple idea executed perfectly with great attention to detail and design touches."

"These bike covers from little-known American brand Favoto often drop to silly prices in Amazon sale events and so we thought we’d get hold of one to see if it’s any good. I got the XXL (245cm) option and it’s the right size for the Triumph Scrambler 400X I’m currently testing.
"I was immediately impressed by the front and rear clips to fix it over the bike as I’ve never got on with the under the belly fasteners you get on many covers. It seems really robust and has weathered a few blustery storms without tearing so far, plus you get a UV reflective layer for sun protection.
"On the flipside, some customer reviews on Amazon say it’s shredded in bad weather. That hasn’t been my experience despite the cover being used through some nasty storms but the bike lives in a sheltered location behind a wall."
Pros
- Incredible value, especially in sales events
- Robust fabric and strong seams
- UV-resistant layer under the waterproof membrane
- Front and rear fitment clips
- Holes for feeding through a modest security chain
Cons
- A bit shapeless and baggy in places
- Some customer reviews claim it shredded in severe weather (not my experience)
- Security chain holes aren’t big enough for big chains
Construction | Oxford fabric with double stitched seams |
Size | As tested: 245x105x125cm (other sizes available) |
Fitment clips | Front and rear |
- Two lock loops
- Reflective strips
- UV layer

"Every bike I have I put together a small but compressive tool kit to cover most emergencies when stuck by the side of road, it’s a little get out of jail free kit to get you back on your way. Cruz tools have taken the pain out by suppling a ready-made mudguard mounted, kit, or you can just pop it in you backpack."
"The tool kit includes: 10 and 12mm ring/open end spanners, an 8” adjustable spanner, T-bar handle which can be changed into ‘L’ shape by sliding the top ‘T’ part across to create an L shape for more leverage, the T-bar has 7 attachments, 8, 10, 12, 13mm sockets as well as 4, 5, and 6mm hex bits which covers most bikes needs. Even the screwdriver is compact but is a 4-in-1 with two sizes of flat head and two sizes of Philips. A must when it comes to bikes, a spark plug socket, which again is double ended so it fits both 5/8” and 13/16”.
"For those little fixes there are 5 cable ties, which you can top up, some wire and a roll of electrical tape to aid getting you out of trouble when stuck in the middle of nowhere. And there is more! Two 240mm tyre levers, which are more than man enough for most tyres, a tyre pressure gauge, a handy little cloth, Mole grip style locking pliers and finally, a rain cover to keep the worst of the wet and muck off."
"All of this is neatly fitted into a very strong and durable zip up case which has 2 main compartments with some very well designed/made storage places for all the individual tools, keeping safely in place. A must for off road riders!"
Pros
- Very comprehensive toolkit
- Surprisingly compact for what's included

"This marvellous pink fluid is used by plenty of the MCN team on their own bikes and is one I frequently return to myself. If you’ve not had the pleasure, Muc-Off Nano Tech is a fully biodegradable, water-based cleaner with a distinctive sweet scent and lurid pink colour.
"You spray it on a wet bike and leave it to do its thing before agitating trouble spots with a brush and rinsing off and I’m always amazed at just how much dirt it fetches off with minimal effort.
"There’s usually a deal to be had somewhere on it, too, so you can stock up if you’ve got space to store it (or buy the concentrated version if you haven’t). Top tip, the Bike Cleaner marketed to cyclists is exactly the same formula in different packaging so you can take advantage of any deals you spot on that, too."
Pros
- Biodegradable so no need to worry about rinsing it onto your driveway
- Smells nice - not a crucial feature but nice to have all the same
Cons
- Struggles with seriously stubborn lube fling or tar
Application | Spray bottle |
Format | Dilute, concentrate or powder |
- Biodegradable
- Safe on most surfaces
- No harmful CFCs or solvents

"The Zumo’s serious capability is both its strength and its weakness. It can do so much, so you really need to study its functionality before you can even begin to scratch the surface of its possibilities.
"If you are a dedicated sat-nav fan and you enjoy the technology as much as you enjoy the riding, then this is definitely for you. If you like planning big trips that cover multiple days and different surfaces, then it is right up your green-lane."

What is Black Friday?
Black Friday is an American invention resulting from the huge peak in shopping seen on the Friday after Thanks Giving (a bank holiday in the states) and has since become a shopping staple for lots of brands.
Even if not all retailers use the Black Friday label anymore (although many still do) most will have a pre-Christmas sales event to kick their festive period off with a bang. We’ll be covering those too, to ensure bikers get the best bang for their festive buck.
