Are these Pando Moto jeans comfortable?

These are comfortable riding jeans whether I’m sitting at my desk, walking around the place, or riding for many hours. I recently did a tour of Portugal and Spain in these jeans and spent many hours in the saddle every day. I never suffered discomfort in the two weeks of riding every day. One reason is that the jeans stretch a bit even though they are made of highly protective materials.

I also wear them to work at MCN Towers and whilst others are changing out of their riding gear when they get in, I’m comfortable wearing these jeans for the whole day then riding home again.

Are these jeans practical?

Pando Moto have built these jeans to last. Even though the material is highly protective, it is not bulky or stiff. With the classic five-pocket design, the front and rear pockets are easy to access because they stretch. There is a conveniently placed pocket loop that can be used for quick access to keys or accessories in the front pocket without fishing around in jacket pockets or tank bags.

The hip armour pockets are where you’d expect them to be, and there are two levels of knee armour pockets. This is a thoughtful touch, and the upper level works perfectly for me. This is the only pair of riding jeans where I’ve found this.

Other practical touches include the reflective tape on the turn-up hem for safety, and highly heat-conducting fabric that helps the jeans keep cool in the hot weather.

Do they look good?

The jeans are described as ‘washed black’, meaning they have that cool faded and worn look. It’s also a clean look with no external stitching visible on the outside. When I walk about the office no-one realises I’m wearing protective jeans. My motorcycle boots are what really betrays that I’m still in my riding gear. As you can see in the photos, the jeans do appear crumpled when you get off the bike, but that just means you’ve been riding with them.

Protection and ratings for the Pando Moto Boss Dyn 01 jeans

They’ve been awarded have highest safety rating of AAA for motorcycle jeans, being Fully CE approved in accordance with the EN 17092-2:2020 standard. The included knee armour is SAS-TEC TripleFlex CE level 1 rated (EN1621-1:2012), and the included hip armour is SAS-TEC TripleFlex CE level 1 (EN1621-1:2012) rated.

Pando Moto motorcycle jeans safety ratings

In their own internal testing the company claims they’ve actually exceeded the official slide time and distance of the AAA certification at 120 km/h to achieve what they call an AAA+ of 6.7 secs and 92m at 135 km/h. This is 20% above the official safety standards.

They achieve this with a highly scientific blend of materials, apparently. First off, spandex is woven into the outer fibres to give that stretch and comfort while riding. The main outer shell is Cordura denim which is engineered with a military-grade type of nylon added to the fibre and cotton threads.

Then they’ve lined the most vulnerable areas with UHMWPE which is 15 times stronger than steel and can take a bullet (don’t try that at home). This is the world’s toughest fibre material, but you’d never know it unless you’ve had the pleasure of meeting the road in your travels.

Are they good value for money?

I would say yes. They’re more expensive than some other jeans, but a lot more has gone into every aspect of construction. There is a two-year warranty that can be extended to three years. They’re obviously not afraid to back up their claims of quality, protection and durability.

What is their “Pando Pilot” programme all about?

Basically, Pando believes so strongly in their products that they’ve got what they call the Pando Pilot program. This is to honour the “road warriors” who have met the pavement in Pando gear. Send them your story with a couple of pics and your mailing address and they’ll send a little something out to you as a gesture of respect (info@pandomoto.com). To me, that is one statement that backs their claim that their jeans are made for riders, by riders.

My verdict

I’ve been riding with these jeans for just over six months in all kinds of weather and over long and short distances. They are comfortable and practical, and look good both on and off the bike. Obviously in rain I wear my waterproofs and in winter I wear base layers, but the Pando Moto jeans are now part of my standard riding gear. When it’s time to get another pair of riding jeans they will either be another pair of Pandos, or a pair that measures up to this standard. Nothing less.

Our rating scores explained

When we review a product, we award it a score out of five. In the ratings tab of a given product, you may also find more specific scores for the different aspects of a product’s performance to help you make an informed decision. Here’s a guide to what each number score means:

  • 1 star – Poor performance in this category or overall. A product with a single star rating has fallen below the expected standard and should be avoided.
  • 2 stars – Basic performance in this area or overall. A product with a two-star rating has managed to perform to a barely acceptable level and there is room for improvement.
  • 3 stars – An average performance in this area or overall. A product with a three-star rating has achieved a basic level of performance and is deemed adequate.
  • 4 stars – A product has performed over and above the accepted averaged in this category or overall. A product with a four-star rating has surpassed expectation and delivered in a particularly impressive way.
  • 5 stars – A product has performed at the highest possible level in a particular category or overall. A product with a five-star rating has delivered to the highest possible level, impressing the tester with its performance. We would happily spend our own money on it.
