This riding Resurgence Pekev Ultra riding jacket/shirt looked so tempting that I couldn’t resist ordering one. When it arrived a few days later, I couldn’t wait to get it out and try it on because the weather had just started to show signs of brightening up.

It came very neatly packaged complete with a wooden Resurgence hanger, so it was clear that plenty of effort had gone into the presentation. Finally unwrapped, the jacket looks even better in the flesh; it is really nicely made. Pick it up and it instantly feels both robust and purposeful as a motorcycle shirt.

The Resurgence Pekev Ultra is made – unsurprisingly – from Pekev Ultra, which is claimed to be one of the strongest, most stable fabrics in the world. To the touch, it feels like a brushed cotton denim-like material with a similar surface pattern to denim. My first job was to fit the D30 IPGhost CE Level 1 armour and Viper back protector, which is included with the jacket but needs to be installed separately into the jacket’s internal pockets.

There is one for each elbow and shoulder along with a large back protector. Thanks to the fact the D30 armour is only 5mm thick, it doesn’t really alter the fit of the jacket, but the best bit is that because it’s so flexible, it makes it feel like I’m wearing an ordinary non-armoured jacket.

I am pleased to note that Resurgence has moved away from the nylon lining fitted in a previous jacket I tested. This new one is blessed with a very nice tartan lining which is very cool and comfortable, especially when just wearing a t-shirt underneath since it doesn’t stick to your arms – particularly on the super-hot days we have experienced.

There are a couple of small outside chest pockets complete with poppered flaps to stop them from self-emptying as you ride. There is enough room for maybe a wallet in one and your keys in the other. Inside there is a larger zip-up pocket which is quite spacious and a smaller pocket with a Velcro closing, just enough for a few essential odds and sods.

The front closing and cuffs are all zip-up with poppered-down flaps over the top which stops the wind from blowing in, also the tail of the jacket is slightly longer which prevents the breeze from getting up my back. It is a very soft flexible jacket for riding, yet manages to instil confidence were something to go wrong (it is AAA rated for abrasion).

Verdict

This jacket ticks all the boxes for me. Not only is it a great jacket for riding around on summer nights, but it’s also spot on for wearing down the pub too!
