The Bering Snap gloves are a pretty straightforward, no nonsense sporty glove. They don’t have a plethora of extra features for tackling all weathers or the bells and whistles for track day runs, but they do everything you need for an everyday glove as a relatively fair-weather rider.

Extremely comfortable and subtle sporty style

How comfortable is the Bering Snap?

I chose this men’s motorcycle glove without really thinking about it, but the medium size fit really nicely. The leather is really soft and supple so I find that they are comfortable for all day rides, my only wish would be for a slightly thicker palm as I do become very aware of the pressure on hands from the handlebars, but that may be more due to my silly choice of aftermarket metal grips that I fitted to my Suzuki SV650s.

The seams and armour are completely unintrusive and do not rub in any way and the double adjustment straps at the cuff allow you to get a nice snug fit around the cuff of your motorcycle jacket sleeve. The only time that I can think of having been uncomfortable in these gloves is when I’ve been caught out in heavy rain, they hold off the water for a short time but after a few minutes or so you end up with cold wet hands; but then they have never claimed to be waterproof, so perhaps I should have taken a different waterproof glove on these occasions.

How does the Bering Snap look?

A big reason for choosing these gloves for me was the understated simple design, the look sporty but they don’t shout it. There are nice little design features like the Bering logo on the knuckles and cuff, but the overall appearance is that of a simple black leather glove. Which I personally really like.

Is the Bering Snap good quality?

You can feel the quality of these gloves in the suppleness of the leather, the neat and unintrusive seams and the lack of fade or wear to date. The only place I feel they could be improved is with a slightly thicker palm, but then you may sacrifice some of the exceptional feel that you get with these gloves. The hook and loop cuffs and adjusters all work perfectly still showing no fraying.

Protection and CE ratings on the Bering Snap

These gloves are certified to KP1, which is the lower of the safety levels, is perhaps a little less than you might hope for, however they feel plenty protective enough for road riding with the rigid knuckle and fingertip protection and soft padded cuff. If however I were looking for a sports glove for track riding, I would probably chose a pair with more protective armour to feel properly safe.

Bering Snap Gloves

Is the Bering Snap good value?

In terms of value, I think these gloves are perhaps a little steeply priced for the level of protection that you get, when you compare them to the LS2 Swift glove or the Oxford Nexus 1.0. However that said, they are the most comfortable gloves that I have worn to date and look to be set for easily another 3,500 miles or more.

Tested by Adam Binnie for three months and 600 miles - "No pair of gloves is going to make you invincible in a crash (save perhaps for a pair of titanium gauntlets) and in reality, there’s always going to be a trade-off between protection and usability. Just like you wouldn’t be able to safely ride in those metal gauntlets, a pair of overly bulky or restrictive leather gloves can reduce your ability to control the bike, or at the very least your confidence."

"These Oxford Nexus 1.0 gloves are a pretty perfect balance - thin in the right areas, and sturdy in others, at a price where rivals are offering lowlier Level 1 protection. A waterproof membrane would open them up to an extended riding season, while those of you with hotter hands might want more ventilation on the warmest days of the year. Otherwise I don’t have a bad word to say about them."

"I have used these gloves quite a lot and while fit – particularly on the thumbs – can be a bit annoying on the roads, where you need constant indicator use, for example, on a track or rural roads where you need feel and control, they are great.

"They feel lovely on the hands, are cooling and work superbly with the bike’s controls and the highest rating for protection, combined with their obvious protective qualities, is enormously reassuring. And at less than £70 a pair, you can’t really go wrong."

So what’s the verdict?

For me, when choosing a pair of gloves, I have always placed comfort and feel of the bike above other features like additional armour or insulation from the cold. For this reason, these gloves have been ideal for me throughout this year, however others may look for a glove with waterproofing or a higher level of protection. Almost second skin like in their comfort and fit, I can see these remaining my go-to gloves for all but extremely poor weather riding.
