Phil Clarke

I started my riding journey while working as a moped courier – nipping around the congested suburbs of south-east London on electric mopeds, in the fast food delivery boom following the coronavirus pandemic. The orange and purple uniform was gaudy, the number of near misses were plentiful, and the gear I wore was as cheap as my employer could get away with supplying. I often spent 12+ hour shifts in the bitter cold, balancing my gloves on the radiators and huddling alongside my colleagues in-between deliveries. And, I wouldn’t trade that for the world!

While I was primarily working to save up for a masters degree in investigative journalism, the real reward by the end was the love I’d gained for all things two wheels. It wasn’t long before I went and bought my prized Suzuki RV 125 VanVan, and never looked back. The many stories I’ve gained along the way have only cemented my love for riding, and that journey progresses further each day here at MCN.

Often found carving my way through the Welsh valleys, I love to revel in the small joys of small bikes. I live on green lanes (quite literally), and will never get enough of exploring the country corner to corner at full throttle until my fingers freeze off – and writing about it!
