Jerez MotoGP: Jorge Lorenzo keen on new Yamaha deal

Jorge Lorenzo has said he would be happy to extend his contract with Yamaha’s factory MotoGP team after revealing he held talks with senior management about his future in Jerez yesterday (Friday).

The Spaniard, who stormed to pole position this afternoon for his home race in Jerez, met with Yamaha boss Lin Jarvis last night to continue talks over a new deal to keep him in the Fiat Yamaha team.

Jarvis had wanted the double world 250 champion to have signed a new two-year deal before the start of the 2009 season, but as yet Lorenzo has not renewed his current deal.

Repsol Honda has already expressed serious interest in the 21-year-old, who goes into tomorrow’s 27-lap Spanish GP leading the world championship after two races.

Lorenzo said: “I had a meeting with Lin Jarvis yesterday and we discussed my future. I think now I’m in a good place and the ambience in Yamaha is perfect and the bike is very competitive.

“The first idea is to continue (with Yamaha), but when you get results all the people want you.”

Rumours continue that Lorenzo is being lined up by Repsol Honda to replace compatriot Dani Pedrosa, who qualified second on the grid for the Jerez clash.
