World Supersport: Parkes under lap record, Jones riding injured

Broc Parkes shrugged off the injuries sustained in a bicycle crash last week to set pole position and a new track record for tomorrow’s 16 lap World Supersport race at Monza.

The factory Yamaha man is riding with a cracked bone in his elbow along with tendon damage to his left wrist and shoulder, but showed impressive pace and will be going all out for his second win of the season.

Another man riding injured is Britain’s Craig Jones who had a big crash during free practice this morning and broke the fifth metacarpal bone in his left hand. The Parkalgar Honda rider had pain killing injections before the final qualifying session and bravely went out in qualifying where he improved his lap time to secure 12th place and a place on the third row of the grid.

Second place went to Australian Josh Brookes who had been dominant all weekend. The Stiggy Honda rider was unable to improve his lap time from yesterday but has shown good race pace and will start tomorrows race as one of the favourites.

Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider Jonathan Rea was the top Brit securing fifth place with his team-mate and championship rival Andrew Pitt in seventh.

Chris Walker endured another tough day after struggling to get his bike working on the exit of the corners, which is effecting acceleration. Walker finished up in 20th place and plans to try a dramatic set-up adjustment in the mornings warm-up to try and resolve some of his problems.

Another man that is struggling is championship leader Joan Lascorz who ended qualifying in 16th place. Lascorz crashed twice today and is predicting a tough race tomorrow.

Brits Graeme Gowland and Kev Coughlan ended the day in 27th and 29th place respectively.
