Assen MotoGP: Dani Pedrosa tops timesheets in free practice three

Dani Pedrosa put on a late surge in the final free practice session ahead of this afternoon’s qualifying session in Assen.

The Repsol Honda rider left it until his last lap and the dying seconds of the hour-long session to grab the top spot from surprise previous leader Randy de Puniet.

De Puniet had looked like taking the lead time of the morning on his LCR Honda with a 1:39.858, but Pedrosa’s last lap saw him record a 1:39.050.

Britain’s James Toseland had a more productive morning finishing fourth on the timsesheets. Although he was 2.5secs off his best time from yesterday he managed to get 18 laps under his belt and was second twice in the session, finishing with a best time of 1:40.331 on the Tech 3 Yamaha.

Ducati’s Casey Stoner was the lead man of the session and it had looked as if his dominance would continue from yesterday. But the Aussie finished the session fifth with a best time of 1:41.088.
