Donington Park MotoGP: Scott Redding wins British 125 Grand Prix

Scott Redding has become the first Brit rider to win a 125 GP since Chas Mortimer in 1973 with an incredible victory making him the youngest rider in history to win a Grand Prix!

The 15-year old sent a massive home crowd wild with a stunning victory performance.

Redding, who also became the youngest rider in history to qualify on the front row for a Grand Prix, got a respectable start ending the first lap fifth, but soon surged up to second by the time he crossed the line again.

The job was then on to reel in runaway leader Andrea Iannone who had already developed nearly a two second gap at the front.

By lap nine Redding had closed the gap to within a second, and looked to sit comfortably behind the leader.

That was until lap 20 when Iannone, with Redding pressuring him, crashed at the top of Craners.

That handed Redding the lead and eventual victory by over five seconds.

After the race he said: “It’s unbelivable.

“After first qualifying we got on the front row and that was a great start for me.

“It’s my first podium and I get to stand on the top step.

“It’s unbelivalbe – I don’t know how I feel quite yet.”

This is the first time the 15-year old has raced at the full Grand Prix circuit at Donington Park.

Bradley Smith finished a distant 10th and Danny Webb failed to complete the first lap.
