Brands Hatch World Supersport: Jonathan Rea declared winner after two red flags stop race

Ex-BSB racer Jonathan Rea has won the World Supersport race at Brands Hatch after it was interrupted with two red flags.

The race was declared a dry race, but the red flags came out on lap nine of 23 as rain began to fall around the Kent circuit.

After the riders had a brief rest the race was to be restarted and the remainder of the laps were to be completed, but Briton Craig Jones crashed at the end of lap 16 and was knocked unconscious, forcing the race to be stopped for the second time.

The final positions were decided on aggregate, with Jonathan Rea placing first, ahead of Craig Jones and team-mate Andrew Pitt.

Before Jones crashed he had an amazing battle for the lead with Rea, with neither of them giving an inch at any corner.

Robbin Harms was leading the race before the first red flag, but crashed just before the red flag and did not restart the race.

Wildcard Karl ‘Bomber’ Harris, was running at the front with the leaders when he crashed out on lap 16 at Graham Hill Bend continuing his run of bad luck from BSB.
