Jonathan Rea is on the provisional front row at Vallelunga
World Supersport championship contender Jonathan Rea claimed second place in a rain hit first qualifying session at Vallelunga to secure his place on the provisional front row for Sundays World Supersport race.
Rea who didn’t venture out on track during the wet morning session finished the day just over a second behind wet weather specialist Matthew Lagrive with fellow Honda riders Gianluca Nannelli and Josh Brookes in third and fourth.
Stand in Kawasaki rider Chris Martin impressed in his second ride for the Gil Motorsport team to take fifth position first time out at the Italian track.
Eugene Laverty rode through the pain barrier of broken bones in both his feet to secure 12th spot.
The biggest surprise of the day was championship leader Andrew Pitt who qualified in a lowly 15th spot, but with dry weather forecast is expected to climb higher up the leader board tomorrow.
