Road race stars to try Shorttrack at Scunthorpe

1 of 1

Road racers, grass-trackers and speedway stars line up against the established shorttrack riders for the annual Silkolene Shorttrack UK Christmas Cracker at Scunthorpe speedway on December 27.

Top road racers Steve Plater, Guy Martin and Karl Harris compete with British Under 18 Speedway Champion Tai Woffinden and 250cc British Grass Track Champion Paul Cooper in the USA-style flattrack against the UK’s top shorttrack riders.

Steve Plater will be trying to better last year’s performance when he finished 6th overall. HM Plant Honda’s new signing will once again be riding a CRF450 Honda with a big smile on his face and putting his skill on the dirt to the test.

TT star Guy Martin who is also a regular at Shorttrack, will be teaming up with new BSB team mate Karl Harris, both riders having signed for the Hydrex Honda team for 2009. Amazingly, their first outing as team-mates will be on the dirt oval, aboard the Flat Track Experience CCM machines.

Young speedway sensation Tai Woffinden, who has fitted a lot into his short career including representing Britain in the World Cup, will be one to watch, his sliding skills and track craft will be easily convert to shorttrack.

Worth the admission fee on his own is spectacular rider Paul Cooper. In his rookie meeting at last year’s cracker he wowed the crowd with his speed and flair, riding around the boards to earn a place in the final. If he wants to better his result this year no doubt he will be just as exciting.

The Silkolene Shorttrack UK series has stars of it’s own and they too will be going all out to show what they can do. Last year’s cracker winner and championship runner up team Suzuki rider Peter Boast will be there, along with Aidan Collins, Rusty Hodgson, Tim Greig and many more to guarantee a top day’s excitement, making it an unmissable event.

Get yourself down to Scunthorpe Raceway, Normanby Road, Scunthorpe, DN15 9YG for racing at 1.00pm on Saturday 27th December.

Admission – Adults £10, Cons £8, Juniors (12-15) £3, Kids Free, Family Ticket £20.    www.shorttrackuk.com
