Suter delays Moto3 project

Swiss engineering specialist Suter Racing Technology, designers of the most popular chassis in Moto2, has shelved plans to build a complete machine for the new Moto3 class in 2012.

A 250cc single-cylinder motor designed in-house by Eskil Suter was expected to begin dyno testing imminently.

But the project has been put on hold and Suter told MCN: “We have delayed the project because the risk to make something straight from the drawing board to production was too big.

“Now we are taking some time to develop everything and whenever the bike is competitive we will bring it to the track. I’m not sure about the world championship but we could do the Spanish championship next year. Now we are not trying to have everything ready by December.”

The Moto3 project hadn’t been completely scrapped and Suter said the concept would be revisited with a view to entering the 125GP two-stroke replacement series in 2013.

He added: “If there is some demand and we could enter in April or May next year. But definitely we want to enter in 2013 at a very high level.”
