GMTV presenter’s bizarre outburst

In a bizarre outburst on GMTV this morning (January 15), presenter Fiona Phillips said she received death threats from MCN readers .

Following a debate on cyclists jumping red lights, Phillips said: “Tomorrow, viewers – motorcyclists. We would love to hear from you, especially those who overtake in the middle of the road, behind you on motorways with their lights flashing right in your mirror. Motor Cycle News wrote to me. I was threatened, my life was threatened by readers of Motor Cycle News.”

A spokesman for GMTV said there was to be no debate on motorcyclists on tomorrow’s show and that Phillips had been “joking”.

He said that during the debate on cyclists “viewers raised the issue of motorcycles also being a potential pest on the road”.

In 2004 Phillips sparked outrage in the forums of this website by accusing motorcyclists of being ‘crap drivers’ in a column for the Daily Mirror.

MCN has no record of writing to Phillips and is seeking clarification from GMTV.
