Tickets are now on sale for MCN and Rider Connect’s Ride for Rights 2007.

MCN and rider’s rights group Rider Connect are calling on motorcyclists to join our mass ride in London on October 20 against road pricing for motorcycles and any new power, weight of speed restrictions.

Despite a petition signed by thousands of riders, Government has yet to offer any assurance that motorcyclists will not be included in road pricing plans aimed at tackling congestion.

Ride for Rights 2007 is aiming to celebrate motorcycling and drive home our message that motorcycles are non-congesting and should therefore not be subjected to congestion charges.

We also aim to challenge a recent call from road safety groups for motorcycles to be ‘downsized’ with new power, weight and speed restrictions.

Richard Olliffe, campaigns manager for Rider Connect, said it was all the more important that we turn out in force in light of the call, which has come from the influential pedestrian and cycling lobby.

He said: “If you have a strong ongoing protest, it keeps politicians quiet because they know you are going to come back at them. Let’s not sit in the pub and think about it. Let’s get off our arses and do it.”

We plan to meet at Wembley Stadium for a 1pm set-off on a mass ride through the city centre ending at Whitehall, which police have agreed to give us exclusive access to.

The £5 ticket price will be split between charity and organisation costs – £2 will be split between Riders for Health and UK Air Ambulance charities and the other £3 will pay costs such as venue hire and marshalling.

MCN makes no money from ticket sales.
