Ducati reveal 195bhp V-twin 'Superquadro'
Updated: 20 November 2014
This is the radical, all-new 1200cc ‘Superquadro’ engine which will power Ducati’s eagerly awaited new superbike, the 1199 Panigale – and it’s set to revolutionize superbikes.
In this week’s MCN – out Wednesday – Ducati chief Claudio Domenicali reveals the engine is:
- incredibly ‘oversquare’ – where piston diameter, or bore, exceeds stroke. The engine is dubbed ‘Superquadro’ which is Italian for ‘Super square’.
- Riddled with advanced technology both in design and construction.
- Phenomenally powerful. Ducati claim 195bhp – over 20bhp more than the outgoing 1198.
- Very compact, while clever design features enable massive weight reductions of the overall bike.
In our exclusive interview, Ducati boss Domenicali confirmed to MCN that the Superquadro/1199 had been a massive project for Ducati. “In terms of effort there is no parallel with any other project we have released onto the market in the last 20 years.”
