Richard Hammond and the Top Gear gang racing again

Richard Hammond and Top Gear television co-stars Jeremy Clarkson and James May are racing again on the show this Sunday – with Hammond on a 1949 Vincent, Clarkson in a steam train and May in a Jaguar XK120.

Steam Railway magazine editor Danny Hopkins suggested to Top Gear producer Andy Wilman that it would be a great idea to get the BBC team on the footplate of Britain’s newest express passenger locomotive, Tornado.

A RACE BETWEEN A CAR, MOTORCYCLE AND TRAIN
The result: a race between a car, a motorcycle and a steam train from London to Edinburgh. Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson acted as fireman on the locomotive, while co-presenter May drove a 1949 Jaguar XK120, and Hammond rode a 1949 Vincent motorcycle.

“As the day of the shoot approached on April 25 a complete lockdown on information was enforced,” Hopkins said.

It all went perfectly – but who won? “All I can tell you is, it was close,” Hopkins said.
The show will go out this Sunday (June 21).
